Prof. Mmom Assumes Office as First Vice-Chancellor of Federal University of Environment and Technology

The Federal University of Environment and Technology, Koroma/Saakpenwa in Rivers State has officially welcomed its first Vice-Chancellor, Professor Prince Chinedu Mmom, who resumed duties on Thursday, August 7, 2025.

Prof. Mmom wasted no time in getting to work, focusing on key steps to ensure the smooth take-off of academic activities in line with the directive of President Bola Tinubu.

On his first day, the Vice-Chancellor led an inspection tour of the university’s campus alongside the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Don Mon Baridam, and the Vice-Chancellor of Rivers State University (RSU), Professor Isaac Zeb-Obipi.

The visit was part of final preparations for the start of academic programmes, with the team assessing available facilities, reviewing infrastructure, and evaluating the overall readiness of the institution.

Professor Mmom was appointed to the role by President Tinubu on July 30, as announced by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga. His appointment marks a significant milestone for the young university, which is expected to play a strategic role in advancing education and research in environmental and technological fields, particularly in the Niger Delta region.

With the groundwork now being laid, the university is set to open its doors to students soon, ushering in a new chapter in higher education for Rivers State and beyond.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
