PHYNA CALLS OUT DANGOTE GROUP OVER BROKEN PROMISE TO FUND SISTER’S TREATMENT ABROAD
Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Ijeoma Josephina Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, has publicly accused the Dangote Group of failing to keep its promise to fund her younger sister’s medical treatment abroad.
Phyna’s sister, Ruth, was involved in a tragic accident on August 13, 2025, near Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State, when a Dangote truck allegedly driven by an underage, unlicensed driver hit her. The accident occurred just six days after Ruth’s graduation, leaving her with a severely damaged right leg and the amputation of her left leg.
According to Phyna, the Dangote Group initially agreed to her request for Ruth to be flown to India for urgent treatment. Ruth was first moved to Lagoon Hospital, Lagos, where Phyna was asked to submit a detailed medical report. However, after she complied, the company reportedly backtracked, insisting on seeking further medical advice before making a decision.
Later, Phyna said the company demanded a second report from Lagoon Hospital confirming that Ruth’s case could not be handled locally. Despite providing all requested documents, she revealed that her contact person at Dangote has since ignored her messages for over 24 hours.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Phyna pleaded directly with Aliko Dangote, the company’s chairman, to personally intervene.
“My sister’s life must not be put at risk. She needs urgent care and it’s beyond what local hospitals can handle. Dangote must keep to their words,” she wrote.
The reality star expressed deep frustration, saying Ruth’s condition is worsening and time is running out.
The incident has sparked fresh conversations online about corporate accountability and the responsibility of companies in addressing damages caused by their vehicles and drivers.
