Fuel Prices Soar as Petrol Reaches ₦1,037 Per Litre in June — NBS

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has revealed that the average price of petrol across Nigeria surged to ₦1,037.66 per litre in June 2025, marking a sharp increase compared to ₦750.17 in the same month last year.

According to the NBS Petrol Price Watch Report, this represents a 38.32% year-on-year increase. On a monthly basis, petrol prices rose slightly from ₦1,027.76 in May — a 0.96% jump.

States With Highest and Lowest Petrol Prices

The report showed that Jigawa State recorded the highest average petrol price in June at ₦1,107.52 per litre, closely followed by Ondo (₦1,104.80) and Lagos (₦1,100.29).

Meanwhile, states with the lowest average prices were Yobe (₦950.60), Kogi (₦986.67), and Imo (₦987.86).

In terms of regional trends, the North-West zone topped the chart with an average price of ₦1,062.84, while the North-East recorded the lowest regional average at ₦1,020.15 per litre.

Diesel Prices Also on the Rise

The report also covered diesel prices, revealing an average cost of ₦1,813.81 per litre in June 2025 — up from ₦1,462.98 in June 2024. This is a 23.98% increase year-on-year, with a 3.16% rise compared to May 2025’s ₦1,758.26 per litre.

Benue State recorded the highest diesel price at ₦2,541.46 per litre, followed by Adamawa (₦2,355.32) and Plateau (₦2,236.42). On the flip side, Ondo (₦1,365.71), Anambra (₦1,391.02), and Kogi (₦1,400.00) had the lowest average diesel prices.

Regionally, the South-South zone reported the highest diesel prices at ₦1,963.86 per litre, while the South-West saw the lowest average at ₦1,618.74.

The spike in fuel prices continues to impact household budgets and transportation costs nationwide, raising fresh concerns about inflation and economic strain on citizens.
