PETER OBI KNEW ABOUT MY MOVES – DATTI BABA-AHMED CLEARS AIR AMID LP CRISIS
Datti Baba-Ahmed, the former vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has opened up on his attendance at the recent National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held by the Julius Abure-led faction of the party, stating that Peter Obi was informed and raised no objection.
Speaking in an interview on Arise Television Tuesday night, Baba-Ahmed dismissed claims that his actions were done behind Obi’s back.
He made it clear that he consulted with Obi and kept him updated before participating in the controversial gathering.
“Peter Obi is a very easy person,” Baba-Ahmed said.
“He leaves you to use your judgment and initiative. He was fully in the picture. I carry him along in everything I do.”
Amid the ongoing leadership tussle within the Labour Party — with Julius Abure and Nenadi Usman leading rival factions — Baba-Ahmed insisted his relationship with Obi remains solid. He explained that he understands the pressure Obi is under and is simply stepping in where necessary.
“Not long ago, his younger brother’s property was destroyed. He went for Buhari’s burial in Daura. One governor is also trying to block his visit. He’s under a lot of pressure,” Baba-Ahmed explained.
He added: “Maybe Obi is shy to tell me to handle some party issues, but I know his hands are full. If we had been sworn in, these responsibilities would have fallen on me anyway.”
The Labour Party has been battling internal conflict over its leadership structure, with stakeholders divided between Abure and Usman. Some members argue that Abure’s tenure has expired, while others still support his leadership.
Despite the division, Datti Baba-Ahmed’s interview signals that top figures within the LP are still trying to manage the situation with coordination and mutual respect.
