Segun Sowunmi, a member of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, has accused Peter Obi of encouraging a political movement whose supporters are hostile towards people who disagree with them.

Speaking during an interview on Vanguard’s Politics Hub, Sowunmi criticised the conduct of some supporters of the former Labour Party presidential candidate, popularly known as Obidients.

He cited criticism directed at public figures, including Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka and the late Doyin Okupe, while arguing that political disagreement should not become personal abuse.

Sowunmi alleged that Obi had made his supporters “become enemy of everybody.” The remark reflects his assessment of the movement, rather than an established description of all Obi supporters.

The APC campaign council member also discussed regional political influence ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He argued that political power requires negotiation and that Yoruba leaders should defend their interests, just as other groups pursue theirs.

Sowunmi questioned expectations that political leaders from the region should surrender their influence in the name of accommodation.

His comments combined criticism of the Obidient movement with an argument for stronger regional political bargaining as parties prepare for the next election.

The supplied account did not include a response from Obi or representatives of the Obidient movement.
