Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has resumed his public engagements after taking a brief medical rest.

Obi had earlier announced on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle that he fell ill while attending a tourism event in Enugu on Friday. Following his doctor’s advice, he suspended all engagements within and outside the country for the weekend.

In his message, Obi thanked Nigerians for their prayers and concern during his time away. “Let me begin by thanking everyone who wished me well during my short time away from engagements on the doctor’s advice,” he wrote.

On resumption Monday, he kept a promise by visiting Maison de Helen (MDH), a Nigerian luxury fashion brand founded in 1990 by designer Helen Unuane. The business, now also run by her daughter Elsie Unuane, has grown into a household name in Nigerian fashion.

Obi praised the brand as more than just a textile house, describing it as “living proof of how Nigerian creativity, heritage, and enterprise can resonate on the global stage.”

Highlighting the importance of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in national development, he noted that MDH employs over 50 young Nigerians, directly and indirectly. He stressed that with proper government support and investment, businesses like MDH can scale up, create more jobs, and contribute significantly to Nigeria’s economy.

Obi’s return marks a continuation of his consistent push for economic growth through entrepreneurship, innovation, and youth empowerment.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
