Nigerian Afrobeats star, Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has revealed his pre-show rituals ahead of hitting the stage.

Speaking to Dazed during Milan Fashion Week, where he walked the runway for Diesel, Rema said he drinks alcohol, smokes cigarettes, and prays before performing. He also ensures a thorough sound-check with his team to guarantee a seamless show.

“A little tequila, a little cigarette, pray, tap in with the team and make sure everything is on cue,” he shared when discussing his pre-show routine.

Rema described performing as more stressful than walking the runway, noting that “performing has a lot to do with your breathwork and you have to keep the crowd going.”

When asked about music inspiring him lately, Rema said he has been listening to “a lot of Sudanese cultural live music.” He also admitted that smoking cigarettes remains his “biggest vice.”
