President Bola Tinubu has stated that Nigeria’s security agencies are making significant progress in the fight against terrorism, banditry, and the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

In his nationwide broadcast to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day on Wednesday, Tinubu said relative peace has returned to the North-East, North-West, and South-East following recent military gains.

He emphasized that his administration remains committed to strengthening national security and ensuring economic growth and stability.

“The officers and men of our armed forces, alongside other security agencies, are working tirelessly and making great sacrifices to keep our nation safe,” Tinubu said. “They are achieving victories against terrorism, banditry, and other violent crimes. Their courage is evident in their blood and sweat as they confront Boko Haram in the North-East, IPOB/ESN in the South-East, and kidnappers and bandits across the country.

“We must continue to honour their gallantry and sacrifices on behalf of a grateful nation. Today, peace has been restored to hundreds of liberated communities in the North-East and North-West, with thousands of displaced persons returning to their homes.”

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
