The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the judiciary to refrain from involving itself in the party’s internal matters, warning that such actions risk courts appearing political.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, made the remarks on Friday during an interview on Arise Television, expressing concern that courts are gradually taking on political roles.

Ememobong stated: “This verdict reflects the wisdom of my lord in arriving at that decision, because I am certain there is no provision in the party’s constitution that establishes a national caretaker. However, out of respect for the judiciary, the court should stay away from our internal affairs so as not to become politicians.

“Perception and reality may differ, but when they converge to a point where people lose faith in a process, then there is a problem. I am not making accusations, but highlighting perceptions. For instance, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court once approached the Minister of the FCT seeking land and housing for judges. Such gestures, though public and well-intentioned, raise questions about perception.

“In law, it is fundamental that justice must not only be done, but must also be seen to be done,” he added.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
