PDP TELLS FUBARA: SHOW LOYALTY, RESTORE PEACE AS YOU RETURN TO OFFICE

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has sent a strong message to Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, as he returns to office following the end of the six-month emergency rule in the state.

Deputy National Legal Adviser of the PDP, Okechukwu Osuoha, urged Fubara to embrace accountability, loyalty to the party, and a renewed commitment to peace and stability in Rivers State.

Osuoha explained that Fubara’s suspension was tied to the emergency declaration by President Bola Tinubu in March. With no extension granted, he said, the governor is constitutionally obligated to resume full responsibilities.

“The issue is that there was an emergency declaration by the President, constitutionally, which is allowed. He has to come back to the office because the suspension was for six months, and there has been no extension,” Osuoha stated.

He acknowledged ongoing debates about whether an elected governor can legally be suspended under emergency rule but stressed that Fubara’s return should mark a fresh chapter of reconciliation and governance.

“Every Nigerian expects a cordial relationship between the executive and the legislative arms of Rivers State, between the governor and the House of Assembly,” he added.

Osuoha also advised Fubara to mend political fences, including with his political godfather, to restore stability.

“There must be peace and unity in the state so that development can take place because Rivers has suffered a lot,” he said.

He further emphasized the importance of party loyalty, reminding Fubara that the PDP remains his political base.

“He is still a member of the PDP and should participate fully in party affairs. Party is supreme. If you have any problem, the party will come to your rescue and support you,” Osuoha noted.

With his return, all eyes are now on Governor Fubara to see whether he will follow the PDP’s counsel and steer Rivers State toward peace, unity, and progress.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
