PDP SLAMS ABDULRAZAQ OVER PLAN TO BUILD NEW GOVT HOUSE IN ILORIN, CALLS IT A WASTE
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has strongly criticized Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq over an alleged plan to construct a new Government House Secretariat in Ilorin, describing it as a waste of public funds and a misplaced priority.
In a statement released on Monday, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, questioned the logic behind the move, especially when many communities in the state are struggling with poor infrastructure, dilapidated schools, ill-equipped hospitals, bad roads, and rising poverty.
According to the PDP, "Governor Abdulrazaq has less than two years left in office. What urgent need does a new Government House serve at this stage of his administration?"
The opposition party also pointed out that the current Government House is already luxurious and largely underused, as the governor reportedly hasn’t utilized the complex since taking office in 2019 — despite billions of naira being allocated for its maintenance. For example, N3.2 billion was budgeted for its renovation in 2021 alone.
The PDP further alleged that the project is being awarded to a foreign contractor, which contradicts Governor Abdulrazaq’s Otoge campaign promise to empower local contractors and support homegrown businesses.
“This is not just wasteful — it’s unfair to hardworking Kwarans who are barely surviving under the current economic hardship,” the party said.
The PDP is now demanding that the governor publish full details of the proposed contract, including its cost and contractor name, urging citizens to remain alert and reject projects that do not align with their immediate needs.
“We cannot allow vanity projects to mortgage the future of our children,” the statement concluded.
