The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed its unity and resilience despite reports suggesting that some of its governors are planning to defect.

The opposition party emphasized that its foundation is built on the people rather than individual ambitions or personal interests.

Speaking during an interactive session with journalists in Abuja on Thursday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary and Secretary of the Media and Publicity Sub-Committee for the 2025 National Convention, Debo Ologunagba, said the PDP would not be distracted by what he described as “orchestrated defections” allegedly influenced by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ologunagba noted that the public attention surrounding the alleged defections reflects the growing national interest in the PDP and its preparations for the upcoming convention. He maintained that the party’s institutional strength and democratic values have seen it through even more challenging times in the past.

“Let me make it clear: the stories of defection or possible defection currently attracting attention only highlight our political influence.

“The PDP stands firm because it was built on a solid foundation — one rooted in the people. We remain the only truly democratic party in this country, built on ideas, convictions, and sound policies,” he said.

He further recalled that in the past, even presidents and vice presidents had left the PDP, yet the party remained strong because it was founded on enduring values rather than personalities.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
