The Peoples Democratic Party faction led by Abdulrahman Mohammed has scheduled the screening of its presidential and governorship aspirants ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party announced that the exercise will take place on Thursday at its National Secretariat Annex, Legacy House, Maitama, Abuja.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued in Abuja by the party’s National Director of Publicity, Chinwe Nnorom, on behalf of the National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed.

According to the statement, governorship aspirants are expected to appear before the screening panel by noon, while presidential hopefuls will be screened later at 2 p.m. at the same venue.

The PDP also unveiled members of the committees responsible for the exercise.

Former Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu was named chairman of the presidential screening committee, while Hassan Sokodobo will serve as secretary.

Other members of the committee include George Sekibo, Abba Isawa, Sodipo Semiu, Chinelo Chidebelu, Nasiru Mohammed, Zainab Kure, and Lindsey Sora.

For the governorship screening exercise, former Kaduna State Governor Ahmed Makarfi was appointed chairman of the committee, with George Ariolu serving as secretary.

The announcement comes amid ongoing leadership tensions within the PDP, as another faction led by Tanimu Turaki had earlier issued a separate timetable for the party’s 2027 primary process.

The Turaki-led interim National Working Committee on Wednesday extended the deadline for the purchase of nomination and expression of interest forms to May 15.

It also moved the submission deadline for completed forms to May 18 and fixed May 19 for the screening of aspirants.

According to the interim NWC, the adjustment followed appeals from stakeholders and aspirants seeking additional time to complete the process.

The latest developments further highlight the internal power struggle within the PDP as the opposition party prepares for what is expected to be a crucial and highly competitive 2027 election cycle.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
