PDP FACTION FAULTS ARREST OF AKWA IBOM SPOKESPERSON, OFFERS LEGAL SUPPORT
A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State has strongly condemned the arrest of the party’s state spokesperson, describing it as politically motivated and an attempt to intimidate opposition voices.
The group, led by a factional chairman, offered to provide legal support to the arrested official and vowed to challenge the action in court. “This arrest is a clear violation of democratic principles and an attempt to silence the PDP in Akwa Ibom,” the faction said in a statement.
The spokesperson was reportedly arrested in connection with a case involving alleged defamation and public disturbance. Party leaders have demanded his immediate and unconditional release, accusing security agencies of bias.
The development comes amid heightened political tensions in the state as different PDP factions continue to jostle for control ahead of future elections.
Political observers have called for calm and adherence to the rule of law to prevent escalation of intra-party conflicts.
