PDP FACES MORE LOSSES AS ZAMFARA GOVERNOR PRESSURED TO JOIN APC
Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara State have reportedly urged Governor Dauda Lawal to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), signaling potential further losses for the opposition party.
The development was disclosed on Saturday by APC stalwart Iran Muhammad in a statement shared on X.
According to Muhammad, Governor Lawal convened an emergency meeting with key stakeholders to discuss the political direction of the state.
In a video accompanying the post, Muhammad claimed that the governor met with members of his cabinet and PDP leaders, during which joining the APC was proposed.
“The Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, PhD, held an emergency meeting with his cabinet and PDP stakeholders late last night to discuss the way forward. During the meeting, they recommended that he join the APC,” Muhammad stated.
The reported move comes amid a wave of defections rocking the PDP. Lawal is among the three remaining PDP governors following the recent exit of Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri on Friday. The other two PDP governors are Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State and Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.
In recent years, the PDP has struggled with persistent internal leadership crises. On Friday, the Oyo State High Court in Ibadan affirmed the validity of the party’s national convention held in November 2025 in the state capital, which produced Kabiru Tanimu Turaki as the substantive National Chairman.
However, the party’s internal challenges were compounded earlier in January when a Federal High Court, also in Ibadan, nullified the convention that brought Turaki into office.
