PDP DEMANDS CLARIFICATION ON OKPEBHOLO’S $250M INVESTMENT DEAL
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has raised concerns over Governor Monday Okpebholo’s recent announcement of a $250 million investment agreement, calling for transparency and detailed explanations on the deal.
The state government had disclosed that the governor sealed the agreement with the European African Chamber of Commerce and Industries during the Edo Global Investment Summit held in Glasgow, Scotland, on September 25, 2025. The partnership, according to Chief Press Secretary Fred Itua, is expected to drive strategic investments in Edo within the next three to five years.
But in a statement released on Sunday, PDP spokesperson Daniel Osa-Ogbegie criticized the governor’s claim, describing it as questionable and potentially misleading. He argued that Edo people deserve clarity, not vague announcements.
“This so-called $250 million deal has already turned into a source of embarrassment,” Osa-Ogbegie said. “We will not only seek answers on this claim, but also demand accountability regarding the abandonment of projects started under former Governor Godwin Obaseki, and expose any financial practices lacking in transparency.”
The PDP emphasized that while it recognizes the authority of the government, its ultimate loyalty is to the people. The party vowed to support policies that genuinely benefit Edo citizens but to resist what it termed oppressive or deceptive governance.
Osa-Ogbegie also sent a message to the All Progressives Congress (APC), urging its Publicity Secretary, Peter Uwadiae-Igbinigie, and Information Commissioner, Paul Ohonbamu, to prepare for what he called “vigorous engagements” in the months ahead.
Meanwhile, the PDP used the opportunity to inaugurate its newly elected state executive council. Tony Aziegbemi retained his position as chairman, with Victor Enoghoma as deputy chairman and Henry Tenebe as secretary. Others appointed include Monday Osaigbovo (vice chairman, South), Adekunle Oboh (vice chairman, Central), Richard Anetekhia (vice chairman, North), Ogbeide Ifaluyu-Isibor (organising secretary), John Adodo (financial secretary), Benedicta Attoh (women leader), Paul Itua (legal adviser), Liberty Ogboh (treasurer), Austin Edosowan (youth leader), Obas Stephen (auditor), and Osa-Ogbegie himself as publicity secretary.
