PDP CHALLENGES UZODINMA TO REVEAL COSTS OF NEWLY COMMISSIONED IMO PROJECTS
The Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on Governor Hope Uzodinma to disclose the total expenditure on the Assumpta single-lane interchange flyover and the Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu International Conference Center (EIICC), both commissioned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during his recent visit to the state.
In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Lancelot Obiaku, the opposition party stressed that transparency demands full disclosure of how much was spent on the projects, accusing the government of treating governance like a private enterprise.
According to PDP, Uzodinma’s administration has sidelined the state’s Public Procurement Bureau, allegedly granting the governor sole authority over contract approvals and project spending. The party described the fanfare around the commissioning as “administrative corruption,” arguing that billions were wasted on a handful of structures while essential public services remained neglected.
“Imo citizens are gnashing their teeth and counting their losses over the reckless plunder of their commonwealth,” Obiaku stated.
The PDP also highlighted the deplorable state of critical roads within the state capital and rural communities. Roads such as Umuguma Road, Ahiajoku Convention Centre access roads, and the Nekede–Ihiagwa road leading to Federal Polytechnic Nekede and FUTO were described as “death traps,” despite being vital to thousands of residents.
The party argued that after nearly six years in office, Uzodinma’s government continues to prioritize secondary projects over pressing infrastructural needs, leaving schools, hospitals, and roads in decay.
PDP has now challenged the governor to publish the exact costs of the commissioned flyover and conference centre, warning that it would make its own independent findings public if the government fails to act.
