PARTIAL NATIONAL GRID COLLAPSE DISRUPTS POWER SUPPLY ACROSS SOUTHEAST
The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company Plc (EEDC) has confirmed a partial collapse of the national grid, leading to widespread outages in several parts of the Southeast.
EEDC’s spokesperson, Emeka Ezeh, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday, noting that the incident occurred at about 11:54 a.m.
According to the company, the disruption affected customers served by its subsidiary networks, including MainPower, TransPower, FirstPower, NewEra, and EastLand.
“EEDC wishes to inform its customers across the Southeast that it experienced a partial system collapse today at about 11:54 a.m.,” the statement read. “This resulted in the power outage currently affecting customers served by our subsidiary companies. The cause of the collapse is yet to be ascertained, but we are on standby, awaiting restoration of supply.”
The development follows recent nationwide power reductions attributed to maintenance work by Seplat Energy and ongoing repairs on gas pipelines operated by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company.
However, as of the time of filing this report, electricity supply remained stable in parts of Abuja, Nasarawa, Niger, and Kogi, which are served by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company.
