PANDEMONIUM AS HOODLUMS ATTACK UNIZIK STUDENTS
Students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University were attacked by suspected herdsmen on Sunday night, leaving several students injured.
According to reports, most of the victims, primarily first-year students, were on their way to a night lesson along Ifite Road when the assailants struck. One male student sustained severe injuries, losing three fingers while trying to defend himself, and was rushed to the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital for treatment. His twin sister was also wounded during the attack.
A source in the institution noted that the route taken by the students is “a dangerous, lonely path,” adding that the victims were naive to the risks of moving through such areas at night. The male student was rescued after his sister raised the alarm.
University officials, including the Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Kingsley Ubaoji, Chief Security Officer Ken Chukwura, Director of JUPEB, Prof. C. Akunne, Sub-Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Anthony Apiti, and a representative of the PRO’s office, Bonny Nkwuaku, visited the victims at the hospital on Monday morning.
The acting Director of Information and Public Relations/Protocol, Louis Njelita, confirmed the attack, stating that the Chief Security Officer had been informed and was taking necessary actions to address the situation.
