PAN REMO MOVEMENT URGES REMO LEADERS TO RESPECT OGUN ZONING ARRANGEMENT

The Pan Remo Movement has cautioned political leaders and governorship aspirants from Remo against seeking to retain the Ogun State governorship in 2027, saying the existing power-sharing understanding should be respected. The sociocultural group argued that the next governor should come from Ogun West, particularly the Yewa area, after Remo’s prolonged control of the state’s top political office.

The group made its position known in a statement signed by its President, Otunba ’Poju Akintayo-Ayodele, and General Secretary, Oloye Tunde Adekoya. It said Remo had benefited from the support of other parts of the state and should now reciprocate by supporting a credible candidate from Ogun West. According to the movement, maintaining the zoning arrangement would help preserve political trust and cooperation among the different zones.

The Pan Remo Movement noted that Remo has produced two governors since Nigeria returned to democratic rule in 1999: Gbenga Daniel and the incumbent, Dapo Abiodun. The two administrations, it said, amount to 16 years of the 28-year period of democratic governance in Ogun State. The group therefore maintained that Ogun West, which has not produced a governor since the creation of the state, should be given an opportunity to lead.

The movement also appealed to Remo politicians, traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders to place the broader interests of the zone and Ogun State above individual political ambitions. It warned that attempts to disregard the zoning understanding could affect the trust and goodwill that have developed between the state’s political blocs, stressing that political arrangements depend on reciprocity and mutual respect.

The group said the 2027 governorship debate should be viewed beyond the ambitions of individual aspirants and considered in relation to political inclusion and stability across Ogun State. It also announced plans for the 2026 Pan Remo Forum, which it said would focus on preserving goodwill and peaceful coexistence among the state’s various zones before, during and after the 2027 elections.
