PA REUBEN FASORANTI, PROMINENT AFENIFERE LEADER AND CHIEF OBAFEMI AWOLOWO LOYALIST, PASSES AWAY AT AGE 100
Elder statesman and Yoruba leader dies in Akure, leaving a legacy of political activism, educational development, and democratic advocacy spanning nearly eight decades
Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, the revered leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organization Afenifere and a staunch loyalist of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, has passed away at the age of 100.
Family sources confirmed that the elder statesman died peacefully at his residence in Akure, the Ondo State capital, surrounded by close family members and associates.
Born on May 11, 1926, Pa Fasoranti dedicated his lifetime to education, political administration, and the defense of democratic governance in Nigeria, serving as the Commissioner for Finance in the old Ondo State under the governorship of Chief Adekunle Ajasin during the Second Republic.
As a central pillar of the Action Group and later the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN), Fasoranti remained steadfast in promoting progressive ideology, federalism, and good governance, eventually assuming the leadership of Afenifere in 2008 following the death of Senator Abraham Adesanya.
Tributes have poured in from across the nation, with political leaders, traditional rulers, and civil society groups honoring the late nationalist for his unblemished integrity, unifying leadership, and unwavering commitment to the progress of the Yoruba nation and the Nigerian federation.
