Law enforcement operatives apprehend suspect alongside accomplice buyer, recovering the infant following a targeted intelligence-led operation in the state capital

Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command have arrested a 24-year-old mother, identified as Riskat Busari, alongside an alleged accomplice for selling her one-month-old baby boy for the sum of ₦2 million in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The arrest followed a tip-off received by police intelligence officers regarding suspicious financial transactions and the sudden disappearance of the newborn in the challenge area of the city.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect conspired with a middle-aged woman, identified as Funmilayo Adebayo, who paid the agreed sum to take custody of the infant under questionable circumstances.

Confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Oyo State Command, SP Adewale Osifeso, disclosed that the newborn was successfully rescued unharmed during a coordinated raid on the accomplice's residence and has been placed under safe medical supervision.

During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the act, citing severe economic hardship and personal financial distress as her primary motives for selling her biological child.

The police command confirmed that both suspects remain in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Iyaganku and will be formally charged in court upon the completion of comprehensive investigations.
