The Oyo State Government has announced the introduction of daily environmental sanitation across the state, a major step aimed at improving cleanliness, public health, and overall environmental hygiene in Ibadan and other parts of Oyo.

This new initiative moves beyond the traditional monthly sanitation exercise to a daily commitment. Residents are now expected to dedicate a short period each day to cleaning their surroundings, clearing drainages, and disposing of waste properly. The government believes this consistent approach will help tackle filth, reduce flooding, and prevent disease outbreaks more effectively.

Authorities have assured residents that the daily exercise will be properly coordinated with enforcement teams monitoring compliance while also providing support and sensitisation. Markets, major roads, residential areas, and public spaces will receive regular attention to maintain a cleaner environment.

The Commissioner for Environment and related agencies have appealed to citizens, market men and women, schools, and corporate organisations to actively participate. They emphasised that a clean environment is a shared responsibility that benefits everyone through better health and a more beautiful living space.

This move comes as part of broader efforts to make Oyo State one of the cleanest in Nigeria. Officials noted that daily sanitation will help address long-standing challenges such as blocked drainages, indiscriminate waste dumping, and poor environmental habits.

For residents of Ibadan and other towns in Oyo, the daily exercise is expected to foster better hygiene culture and create visible improvements in neighbourhoods. Many have welcomed the initiative, seeing it as a positive development that could transform the state’s outlook if properly sustained.

The government has also promised to improve waste collection services and provide necessary support to make the daily sanitation exercise successful. As the policy rolls out, compliance and cooperation from the public will be key to achieving a cleaner, healthier Oyo State.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
