The Oyo State Government has intensified its campaign against illegal grazing, impounding livestock found violating the state's anti-open grazing regulations.

Officials said the enforcement action followed reports of unauthorized grazing activities in several communities, which have been linked to the destruction of farmlands, environmental concerns, and disputes between farmers and herders.

According to the government, task force operatives carried out inspections in affected areas and confiscated livestock belonging to individuals who allegedly breached the state's grazing laws. The owners of the animals are expected to face penalties in accordance with existing regulations.

Authorities reiterated that the anti-open grazing policy was introduced to promote peaceful coexistence, protect agricultural investments, and reduce conflicts arising from uncontrolled movement of livestock.

The government also urged livestock owners to embrace ranching and other approved methods of animal husbandry, stressing that compliance with the law is essential for maintaining public order and supporting food production.

Farmers and community leaders have welcomed the crackdown, describing it as a necessary step toward safeguarding farmlands and strengthening agricultural productivity across the state.

The Oyo State Government reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing the law and warned that further violations would attract stricter sanctions as efforts continue to address illegal grazing and related security concerns.
