OYO COMMUNITIES CUT OFF AS FLOOD DESTROYS MAJOR BRIDGE

Thousands of residents in Oyo State have been left stranded after a major bridge linking Igbope and Kishi communities collapsed due to heavy flooding.

The affected bridge connects Igbope in Oorelope Local Government Area and Kishi in Irepo Local Government Area, both in the Oke Ogun region of the state. It serves as a vital route for economic, agricultural, and social activities in the area.

According to eyewitnesses and local sources, the bridge was completely washed away by a severe flood that followed heavy rainfall between Monday night and Tuesday morning.

By Wednesday, movement between the two communities had come to a standstill. Farmers, traders, and residents who depend on the road for daily business and transportation are now stuck, with no immediate alternative in sight.

“This is not just a local bridge; it’s our lifeline,” a resident told our correspondent. “People can't go to farms, markets, or even visit families. We’re completely cut off.”

As of the time of this report, no emergency repair efforts had begun, and the bridge remains unusable.

Residents are now calling on the Oyo State Government and relevant agencies to intervene urgently to restore access and prevent further hardship.

The incident highlights the growing concern over climate-related damage and poor infrastructure maintenance, especially in rural communities across Nigeria.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
