OYO APC MEMBERS PROTEST ALLEGED IMPOSITION IN NATIONAL ASSEMBLY CANDIDATES LIST

Aggrieved members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State on Tuesday staged a protest at the party secretariat over what they described as the imposition of candidates for the National Assembly ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The protesters, primarily from Oluyole Federal Constituency, demanded the affirmation of Abiodun Gbolagade as the legitimate candidate for the House of Representatives seat. They claimed he won the primary election but was overlooked in favour of another aspirant.

Carrying placards with inscriptions such as “Say No to Imposition” and “Abiodun Gbolagade is Our Candidate,” the demonstrators accused the party leadership of undermining internal democracy and the will of party members.

The protest comes shortly after the Oyo APC released its list of cleared candidates for various positions. Party officials have maintained that the list remains unchanged and reflects the outcome of due process.

This development highlights ongoing tensions within the Oyo APC as preparations for the 2027 polls intensify. Similar grievances have been reported in other parts of the state, raising concerns about unity ahead of the elections.

Political observers note that such internal wranglings could weaken the party’s position if not promptly addressed through transparent dialogue and adherence to democratic principles.
