OYO ADC GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDATE GAINS NEW SUPPORT AS APM MEMBERS DEFECT

The African Democratic Congress governorship candidate in Oyo State has received a group of former members of the Allied Peoples Movement who defected to the ADC in Ogbomoso as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 governorship election. The development was described as a boost to the party’s growing political structure in the state, with the new members pledging their support for the ADC and its governorship candidate.

The defectors were received during the candidate’s engagement with party supporters and political stakeholders in Ogbomoso. Their decision to leave the APM and join the ADC is expected to further strengthen the opposition party’s presence in the Ogbomoso axis, particularly as political parties begin preparations for the next electoral cycle.

Speaking during the gathering, the ADC candidate reiterated his commitment to addressing the developmental challenges facing residents across Oyo State. He outlined plans centred on improving infrastructure, strengthening social services and creating opportunities that would support economic growth and improve the welfare of citizens.

The candidate also pledged to establish a specialist hospital in Oke-Ogun if elected governor, presenting healthcare development as one of the priorities of his proposed administration. He argued that residents in different parts of the state should have access to quality medical services without having to travel long distances to seek specialised treatment.

The latest defection adds to the political realignment taking place ahead of the 2027 elections, as parties seek to expand their support bases across Oyo State. The ADC is positioning itself as a major alternative in the contest, while the movement of politicians and supporters between parties is expected to continue as the election approaches.
