OYO 2027: SENATOR BUHARI ABDULFATAI DECLARES GOVERNORSHIP AMBITION ON APC PLATFORM
The senator representing Oyo North Senatorial District, Buhari Abdulfatai, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmaker announced his ambition on Monday during a visit to the Oyo State APC Secretariat in Ibadan, where he arrived alongside party loyalists, supporters, and key political stakeholders from different parts of the state.
Abdulfatai Promises Return of Progressive Leadership
Speaking during the visit, Abdulfatai said his decision to join the governorship race was motivated by a desire to return the APC to power in Oyo State and restore what he described as progressive governance at the Agodi Government House in 2027.
According to the senator, his political ambition is founded on integrity, service, and commitment to the development of the state.
“I reiterated my immense respect for the party’s leadership and its internal procedures. I also affirmed that my aspiration is built on integrity, selfless service, and a burning desire to return progressives to the Agodi House come 2027,” he stated.
APC Leaders Accompany Senator to Party Secretariat
The senator’s delegation to the APC secretariat was led by former Oyo State APC Chairman, Akin Oke, and former senator representing Oyo North, Brimmo Yemi-Yusuff.
Other prominent figures in attendance included former Executive Chairman of Ogbomoso North Local Government, Dayo Lawal, and former Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Gunju Ojo.
The gathering also attracted several APC stakeholders and supporters from across Oyo State.
Calls for Free and Fair APC Primaries
Abdulfatai used the occasion to express confidence in the APC’s internal democratic process while urging the party leadership to ensure fairness and transparency during the governorship primaries.
The senator insisted that every aspirant should be given equal opportunity to contest for the party’s ticket without bias or manipulation.
“I also shared a deep conviction I hold that destiny is real. Whoever God has destined to win the ticket will surely get it,” he said.
“I therefore called on the party leadership to ensure a level playing ground for all aspirants. Let the best candidate emerge through a free, fair, and transparent process.”
Senator Backs Tinubu’s Re-Election Bid
The federal lawmaker also appealed to APC members in Oyo State to remain united and support the re-election of Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.
According to him, sustaining the policies of the current administration is important for maintaining economic reforms and political stability across the country.
He urged party members to avoid internal conflicts capable of weakening the APC ahead of future elections, expressing confidence that the party could reclaim power in Oyo State if members remain united.
“By God’s grace, we shall be victorious,” Abdulfatai added.
