OYEBANJI CELEBRATES FORMER EKITI GOVERNOR SEGUN ONI AT 72
Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has congratulated former governor of the state, Segun Oni, on the occasion of his 72nd birthday. Oyebanji joined family members, political associates and well-wishers in celebrating the former governor, while acknowledging his contributions to the development and political growth of Ekiti State.
The governor described Oni as an important figure in the history of the state, noting his years of service and experience in public life. He commended the former governor for his commitment to Ekiti and his continued interest in issues affecting the state and its people. Oyebanji also recognised Oni's contributions to governance during his time as governor and his influence within the state's political landscape.
Oni served as governor of Ekiti State and has remained active in the political affairs of the state after leaving office. Over the years, he has occupied a prominent position in Ekiti politics and has participated in different political movements and contests. His political career has also seen him move across political platforms, reflecting his continued involvement in the country's democratic process.
In his birthday message, Oyebanji wished the former governor good health, wisdom and many more years of fulfilment. He also prayed for continued strength for Oni as he advances in age, while appreciating his contributions to the state. The governor's message reflects the cordial relationship between the two Ekiti political figures despite their different political experiences and affiliations over the years.
The celebration comes months after Oni returned to the All Progressives Congress, a development that attracted attention within Ekiti's political circles. Oni formally defected from the Social Democratic Party to the APC in January 2026, a move described at the time as significant for the ruling party in the state.
