OVER 85 MILLION NIGERIANS LACK RELIABLE ELECTRICITY, SAYS REA BOSS

The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) has disclosed that more than 85 million Nigerians still lack access to reliable electricity supply, highlighting the country’s ongoing power challenges.

The REA boss said the gap underscores the urgent need for increased investment in electricity infrastructure, renewable energy solutions, and innovative approaches to expand access to underserved communities.

According to the agency, improving power reliability is critical to supporting businesses, enhancing healthcare and education services, and improving living standards for millions of Nigerians.

Energy experts said addressing the electricity deficit will require stronger collaboration between government, private investors, and development partners, alongside investments in grid expansion and off-grid solutions.

They noted that renewable energy systems, including solar mini-grids, could play a major role in providing electricity to remote communities where extending the national grid may be challenging.

The REA reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating electrification efforts and supporting sustainable energy projects aimed at delivering reliable power to more Nigerians.
