The Federal Government has announced plans to initiate a new round of cash transfers targeting 2.2 million households across the country, as the ongoing social intervention programme has already expended N419 billion.

Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Tanko Sununu, revealed this during a recent interview on Channels Television.

He stated that the fresh disbursement is scheduled to begin before the end of August 2025.

Sununu explained that under the existing rapid conditional cash transfer initiative, 71 percent of the disbursements have been directed to beneficiaries in the northern region, while 21 percent reached households in the southern part of the country.

“In the next few days, before August ends, we plan to reach 2.2 million households,” the minister noted.

He added that the National Social Safety-Net Coordinating Office (NASSCO) will identify eligible Nigerians from the lowest category in the national social register.

“This is a rapid conditional cash transfer programme. So far, we’ve disbursed N419 billion to five million Nigerians,” Sununu said.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
