The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has revealed that over 1,100 projects are currently ongoing across host communities in the Niger Delta under the Host Communities Development Trust framework.

The Commission’s Chief Executive, Engr. Gbenga Komolafe, disclosed this on Friday during a stakeholders’ engagement in Abuja.

Komolafe said the projects span critical sectors including education, healthcare, infrastructure, water supply, and skill acquisition, aimed at improving the living standards of communities impacted by oil and gas operations.

He noted that the initiatives are part of the Petroleum Industry Act’s provisions to ensure equitable benefit-sharing and sustainable development in oil-producing areas.

“These projects demonstrate our commitment to responsible regulation and fostering peace through tangible development,” Komolafe stated.

Community leaders at the meeting commended the NUPRC for the progress recorded so far while calling for accelerated implementation and greater transparency in project execution.

The NUPRC assured that monitoring mechanisms have been strengthened to ensure timely completion and quality delivery of the community projects.
