It was a moment of celebration at the Kano State Police Command on Monday as over 1,000 officers were decorated with new ranks following their promotion by the Police Service Commission.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, led the decoration ceremony and charged the newly promoted officers to remain disciplined, dedicated, and committed to their duties. The event, which took place at the command headquarters, was highlighted in an official statement released by the command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.

A total of 1,020 officers received promotions, ranging across various ranks. Among the notable officers promoted were:

Umar Ahmed Chuso, who moved up to Commissioner of Police (CP),

Fudaiku Sani Kura, now a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP),

Several Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) were promoted to Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs).

In addition, the breakdown includes:

119 Inspectors promoted to Assistant Superintendent of Police II (ASP II),

490 Sergeants elevated to Inspectors,

400 Corporals promoted to Sergeants,

5 Constables upgraded to Corporals

While congratulating the officers, CP Bakori emphasized that promotion is not just about wearing a new badge but taking on greater responsibility.

“This is in line with the IGP’s vision to reward hard work and end stagnation in the police force. It’s a sign of trust—and now more than ever, the public expects dedication, professionalism, and integrity,” he said.

He also extended his appreciation to the families of the officers, acknowledging their support as a key factor behind the officers’ success.

This mass promotion is part of ongoing efforts by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to boost morale,

enhance police welfare, and build a more effective and motivated force across the country.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
