Public Concern Grows Over Provocative Facebook Posts Calling for Fulani Political Control in Plateau

Nigerians have expressed growing concern following a series of inflammatory Facebook posts by a man identified as Musa Idris Ubandoma, who claims peace will only return to Plateau State if political power is handed over to the Fulani community.

Ubandoma, whose social media activity has sparked outrage, outlined controversial demands that include appointing a Fulani Muslim as deputy governor and secretary to the state government (SSG), allocating land for Ruga settlements, and state sponsorship of Islamic pilgrimages. He claimed these were the necessary conditions for peace in the state.

One of his posts read:

“Plateau state can only get peace on these conditions:
Deputy governor who is Fulani and Muslim
Appointment of one Muslim SSG
Ruga Land
State to support the Islamic Pilgrimage
We are one. We must live in peace, if not RIP.”

More alarmingly, Ubandoma posted other messages promoting violence and supremacy, suggesting the state “belongs to the Fulani” and expressing intent to “destroy” those who oppose them. In another disturbing message, he justified the destruction of farmlands by Fulani herdsmen and claimed they should be allowed to graze anywhere in Nigeria without restrictions.

“Fulani cows must be allowed to eat crops anywhere in Nigeria. We are citizens in the country too. Government must allow free movement, no stealing of cows,” one post stated.

These statements have shocked many Plateau residents and Nigerians at large, raising questions about why law enforcement agencies have not acted against such blatant incitement. Civil society groups and concerned individuals are calling on security and regulatory bodies to investigate the matter urgently and ensure that such dangerous rhetoric does not further inflame already tense ethnic and religious divides in the region.

Plateau State has faced recurring violence over the years, often driven by ethno-religious tensions and disputes between farming communities and herders. Many fear that statements like Ubandoma’s may undermine ongoing peace efforts and provoke more unrest.

Nigerians continue to watch closely, hoping for a firm and just response from the appropriate authorities to prevent hate speech from spiraling into more violence
