OTTI RULES OUT FUTURE PRESIDENTIAL AMBITION
** **
Abia State Governor Alex Otti has said he will retire from active politics after completing his tenure, ruling out any plan to seek the presidency or another elective position.
Otti made the statement during an interview with Arise TV on Friday while responding to questions about former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi’s presidential ambition and whether he might consider a presidential bid in the future.
The governor said he had no intention of contesting for the Senate, local government chairmanship or any other political office after leaving the Abia governorship.
Otti explained that his focus was on completing what he described as his responsibility to the people of Abia State before withdrawing from politics.
He also addressed his relationship with Obi, saying there was no disagreement between them. Otti said Obi would be free to campaign in Abia if he chose to do so, adding that other political figures would also be allowed to campaign in the state.
The governor said such access was part of the democratic process and that he was not opposed to political campaigns by individuals from different parties.
Otti had also previously stated that he wanted younger Nigerians to have opportunities to assume leadership positions after his tenure.
His latest comments effectively rule out a bid for the 2027 presidential election or another elective office after his tenure as governor.
