The Abia State Government has debunked circulating claims that Governor Alex Otti has defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The rumour surfaced after some individuals from Abia shared a photo of Governor Otti visiting Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah shortly before Mbah’s move to the APC. They alleged that Otti’s visit was part of his plans to join the ruling party.

Addressing the speculation on Monday, the Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, dismissed the story as a false narrative spread by political propagandists.

“Governor Alex Otti remains a committed and proud member of the Labour Party—the platform on which the people of Abia State overwhelmingly elected him,” Kanu stated. “His focus remains firm on rebuilding Abia, restoring accountability, and ensuring the delivery of democratic dividends to all citizens.”

He urged the public to disregard the defection claims, describing them as baseless and politically motivated.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
