OTTI COMMENDS MONARCH FOR PROMOTING AGRICULTURE AT NEW YAM FESTIVAL

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has commended the traditional ruler of Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area for promoting agriculture and supporting farmers in the community.

Otti gave the commendation during the 2026 New Yam Festival, where he praised the monarch for using the traditional institution to encourage agricultural development and food production.

The governor described the New Yam Festival as an important cultural celebration that also highlights the value of farming and the contribution of farmers to the economy.

He said agriculture remains critical to achieving food security and creating economic opportunities for residents, particularly young people.

Otti urged traditional rulers and community leaders to continue encouraging their people to embrace farming and other productive activities that can strengthen local economies.

The governor also stressed the importance of preserving cultural traditions while using such platforms to promote development and community unity.

The celebration brought together traditional rulers, government officials, community leaders and residents to mark the beginning of the yam harvest season.

Otti said his administration would continue to support initiatives that promote agriculture, improve food production and create opportunities for farmers across Abia State.

He congratulated the monarch and the people of the community for successfully hosting the festival, describing it as an opportunity to celebrate their heritage while promoting the importance of agriculture.
