A senatorial aspirant for Osun East on the platform of the Accord Party, Samuel Oyedotun, has said ongoing infrastructure projects being executed by the state government in major towns and rural communities have helped reduce poverty and improved residents’ welfare.

Oyedotun, a United States-trained mortgage stockbroker and immediate past Chairman of the Osun State Water Corporation Board, made this known in Osogbo while speaking with journalists on the forthcoming Osun governorship poll and the 2027 general elections.

The aspirant said the various projects being implemented by the Ademola Adeleke administration have won the governor public support, adding that they place him in a strong position for re-election.

“Nearly all major towns and rural communities across the state have one project or the other being executed by the Governor Ademola Adeleke administration. That has helped to reduce poverty and improve the well-being of residents.

“The investment in infrastructure by the governor has won him the support of Osun people and that will make his re-election easier. When I came to Osun about five years ago, all I saw was poverty. The roads were bad. But today, we have better roads than before. Go to any city in Osun, there are major projects ongoing there,” he said.

He added that infrastructure development would outlast short-term welfare demands, saying it would improve long-term economic growth in the state.

“A lot of people may not understand why infrastructure is important and they agitate for stomach infrastructure that they will eat and finish. But this infrastructure that Governor Ademola Adeleke is putting together will give us economic power, and we will develop beyond where we are today,” he said.

Commenting on his senatorial ambition, Oyedotun said his aspiration to the Senate has received backing from traditional rulers and community leaders, including the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.

He said his growing political support base across Ife/Ijesa reflects strong grassroots mobilisation ahead of the election.

The current Senator representing Osun East, Adenigba Fadahunsi, who was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party in 2019 and re-elected in 2023, has since defected to the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 polls.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
