OSUN POLL VIOLENCE: COMMITTEE INVITES VICTIMS FOR RELIEF CLAIMS

The Osun State Election Violence Relief Committee has called on victims of election-related violence in the state to submit their claims for consideration and possible assistance.

The committee, chaired by the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, made the appeal at its maiden meeting on Thursday.

Egbedun said the committee’s responsibility was to listen to victims, verify genuine claims and ensure that appropriate relief reached people who suffered losses during election-related incidents.

He assured victims and their families that all submissions would be considered fairly and transparently, with decisions guided by facts and compassion.

The Speaker specifically appealed to people still receiving treatment in hospitals for injuries sustained during the incidents to come forward through relatives or representatives and present their cases to the committee.

He said the committee would liaise with hospitals to establish the condition of affected victims and ensure that necessary medical attention was provided.

Egbedun also assured victims, their families and hospitals that the government would take responsibility for approved treatment costs.

The committee was established by Governor Ademola Adeleke to verify claims from people affected by election violence and oversee the disbursement of the state’s ₦500m Election Violence Victims Relief Endowment Fund.

The committee said its work would focus on ensuring that genuine victims receive appropriate assistance while maintaining a transparent process for evaluating claims.

The initiative is aimed at supporting individuals and families affected by the violence and helping them recover from the consequences of the election-related incidents.
