The Osun State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old suspected cultist, identified as Ismail Damilare, popularly known as Killer, in Osogbo.

The arrest was confirmed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, during a phone interview with DAILY POST on Monday. According to Ojelabi, Damilare was apprehended by police operatives in the Oke-Odo area of Osogbo on Sunday.

He, however, clarified that contrary to reports circulating online, the suspect is not the son of Nurudeen Iyanda, also known as Alowonle, the Chairman of the Osun State Park Management System. Instead, Damilare is said to be one of Alowonle’s boys.

“It is true that Ismail Damilare was arrested in the Oke-Odo area of Osogbo yesterday, but it is not true that he is the son of Nurudeen Iyanda, aka Alowonle,” Ojelabi explained. “From our investigation, it is clear that he is one of Alowonle’s boys.”

Reports indicate that Damilare was arrested by operatives of the Anti-Cultism Unit of the Osun State Police Command. During the operation, he was found in possession of two locally made pistols and live ammunition.

The suspect reportedly confessed to being an acquaintance of Alowonle and claimed that he possessed the weapons for self-protection.

The Osun State Police Command has since reiterated its commitment to sustaining the ongoing crackdown on cult-related activities across the state, urging residents to cooperate by providing useful information to aid security operations.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
