Despite a wave of defections shaking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, 25 out of 26 members of the Osun State House of Assembly have publicly reaffirmed their loyalty to Governor Ademola Adeleke and the party.

At a press briefing in Osogbo on Wednesday, Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, made it clear that the lawmakers remained united and committed to delivering good governance under the Adeleke-led administration.

“The twenty-five members elected on the platform of the PDP are loyal to Governor Adeleke and the party. There’s no division, no defection, and no crisis in this House,” Egbedun said firmly.

This strong declaration comes amid mounting concerns over a series of high-profile resignations by five federal lawmakers from Osun State, including two senators and three members of the House of Representatives. The defections have raised alarms within the PDP, especially as they affect entire constituencies in the Osun East Senatorial District.

However, the state lawmakers say they are not part of that trend. Egbedun emphasized that the PDP caucus in the Assembly is focused on retaining public trust and supporting Adeleke’s expected re-election bid in 2026.

“We are not for sale. We hold the mandate of our people and we intend to honour that with loyalty and integrity,” the Speaker added.

In a bold political move, the lawmakers also expressed their intention to convince the sole APC member in the House to join the PDP, signaling confidence in their party’s strength and unity.

The Speaker ended with a clear message: despite defections at the federal level, the PDP remains strong and focused in Osun, and the Assembly will continue to work in close partnership with Governor Adeleke to advance development in the state.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
