Former Nigerian Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo (SAN), has been appointed by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to head its Election Observation Mission for Côte d’Ivoire’s upcoming presidential election.

According to a statement from the regional body, the election is scheduled for October 25, 2025, while the ECOWAS observation team will be on the ground from October 19 to 29, 2025, in line with the provisions of its Supplementary Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance.

As Head of Mission, Osinbajo will lead a delegation of distinguished West Africans to engage with key national stakeholders and promote a peaceful, transparent, and credible electoral process. The team will also work alongside international and local observer groups to assess the conduct of the polls.

ECOWAS emphasized that the deployment of the mission reaffirms its commitment to advancing peace, stability, and credible elections across the West African region.

The Côte d’Ivoire presidential election comes at a significant period for West Africa, as several member states prepare for crucial national elections in their continued pursuit of democratic consolidation.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
