OSHODI COURT JAILS EIGHT FOR PHONE SNATCHING IN LAGOS
Eight suspects have been sentenced to six months’ imprisonment by a Magistrate’s Court in Bolade, Oshodi, Lagos, for their involvement in phone snatching and related offences.
The convicts — Anthony Osinachi (21), Victor Onuoha (45), Rowland Ede (25), Daniel Chisom (24), Emmanuel Chukwu (35), Ogbonnaya Uchechi (18), Godday Eke (28), and Benjamin G. (30) — were apprehended on Thursday during a dawn operation conducted by operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) around the Mile 2 pedestrian bridge, an area notorious for frequent phone snatching incidents.
All eight suspects pleaded guilty to the charges when arraigned before the Bolade Magistrate Court. Following their plea, the court handed down a six-month jail term for each individual.
The sentencing serves as a warning to would-be offenders and underscores ongoing efforts by Lagos authorities to curb street crimes, particularly phone snatching, which has been a persistent problem in several parts of the city.
