A visiting United States Congressional delegation, in Nigeria to review the country’s security situation, has disclosed key points discussed during its engagement with senior government officials.

The delegation arrived in Nigeria on Sunday and was received by the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu. The meeting formed part of ongoing diplomatic efforts between both nations to strengthen security cooperation amid growing concerns in Washington over alleged attacks on Christian communities.

In a statement released on Monday, Riley Moore, the Congressman representing West Virginia’s Second District and a member of the delegation, described the conversation with Nigerian authorities as “productive and encouraging.”

He noted that the meeting covered several practical measures and strategies, adding that if the agreed steps are fully implemented, they will significantly improve security for citizens across the country.

Moore acknowledged the Nigerian government’s willingness to collaborate closely with the United States to address the worsening security crisis. However, he stressed that this willingness must be backed by tangible action on the ground.

He also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu’s administration for the rescue of 100 abducted Catholic schoolchildren, describing it as a positive sign of the government’s growing responsiveness to security concerns and its commitment to the emergency measures announced by the President.

According to Moore, Nigeria received the US' concerns with seriousness and urgency. He added that a cooperative security structure is now within reach, pointing to the newly formed joint task force between the two countries as a major step forward.

While acknowledging that substantial work still lies ahead, the US lawmaker said progress is being made. He expressed optimism about continued engagement with the Nigerian government and maintaining open lines of communication.

“Peace be with you all. God bless the great people of Nigeria,” he concluded.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
