OPAY EXPANDS SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME TO 41 INSTITUTIONS

OPay has announced plans to expand its N1.2bn, 10-year scholarship programme to 41 tertiary institutions across Nigeria by the end of 2026.

The fintech company recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Miva Open University, increasing the number of institutions currently participating in the programme to 25.

OPay said it plans to add 16 more tertiary institutions before the end of the year, widening access to scholarship opportunities for more Nigerian students.

The scholarship initiative was designed as a long-term investment in education rather than a one-off intervention. It is intended to provide sustained financial support to students pursuing higher education over a 10-year period.

The partnership with Miva will also give students at the technology-focused institution access to the programme, including opportunities linked to technology and innovation.

Under the arrangement, Miva students will benefit from scholarships as well as professional development opportunities, mentorship and exposure to industry.

The initiative is part of OPay’s wider youth development efforts, which also include the OPay National Innovation Challenge, implemented in partnership with Google and 3MTT, and OPay Futures.

OPay said its investment in education reflects the importance of developing young Nigerians who can contribute to the country’s future workforce and economy.

The company believes sustained educational support can help reduce the financial pressure faced by families while enabling students to remain focused on their studies.

With the planned expansion to 41 institutions, OPay’s scholarship programme is expected to reach more young Nigerians across different parts of the country.

The company said the initiative demonstrates its continued commitment to supporting education and human capital development in Nigeria.
