ONE KILLED, FIVE ARRESTED AS POLICE BREAK UP CULT CLASH IN BADAGRY
The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the death of one person and the arrest of five suspects following a violent confrontation between rival cult groups in the Onireke and Isashi areas of Badagry, Lagos State.
Police officers responding to a distress call recovered a locally made pistol, two pump-action guns, 52 live cartridges, two used cartridges, a Toyota Avalon (registration number KTU 610 JB), a laptop, mobile phones, and other dangerous weapons from the scene.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, revealed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Lagos. She noted that the suspects, aged between 28 and 43, were apprehended during a coordinated operation that quickly quelled the unrest and restored calm to the communities.
“Police received a distress call at about 10:00 p.m. on Saturday reporting a clash between rival cult groups in Onireke and Isashi,” Adebisi said.
She explained that tactical teams and detectives were immediately deployed to the area, where three injured victims were rescued and taken to the hospital for urgent medical attention.
“Sadly, one of the victims was pronounced dead by the doctor on duty at Badagry General Hospital,” she added.
According to Adebisi, a follow-up operation led to the arrest of five suspects believed to be involved in the attack. They are currently in custody and will be charged in court after investigations are concluded.
She further stated that efforts are ongoing to apprehend fleeing members of the cult groups, while patrols and surveillance have been strengthened in the affected areas to prevent further violence.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, commended the swift response and professionalism of the officers who handled the operation.
He reaffirmed the Command’s determination to eradicate cultism and violent crimes across Lagos State, urging residents to stay vigilant, obey the law, and report any suspicious movement to the nearest police station.
