ONE KILLED AS ANAMBRA COMMUNITIES CLASH OVER LAND DISPUTE
One person has been confirmed dead and several others injured following a communal clash between Aguleri and Umuoba Anam communities in Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The incident occurred on Friday amid a longstanding dispute over land ownership between the two communities.
Residents said the renewed conflict caused tension in the area, with several buildings reportedly damaged and a microfinance bank set ablaze.
The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the death and injuries, saying security personnel had been deployed to restore order.
The state Commissioner of Police, Nnanna Ama, led the Deputy Governor, Onyekachukwu Ibezim, alongside security agencies and other officials on an assessment visit to the affected communities.
The land dispute has reportedly existed for several years and has previously attracted government intervention.
Authorities are expected to continue efforts to prevent further violence and address the underlying dispute between the communities.
