ONE FEARED DEAD, TWO INJURED AS APC AND ACCORD SUPPORTERS CLASH IN OSUN
Tension gripped parts of Osun State after a violent clash between supporters of the Accord Party and the All Progressives Congress (APC) reportedly left one person feared dead and two others injured.
The incident occurred in several areas of Osogbo, the state capital, including Owode-Ede, Aisu, Olaiya and Oke-Fia, where residents were forced to flee as gunshots rang out during the confrontation. Reports indicate that the violence erupted following an altercation involving supporters of the two political parties.
Eyewitnesses said panic spread across affected communities as traders hurriedly shut their shops and residents sought safety amid the unrest. The injured victims were reportedly taken to medical facilities for treatment, while security operatives moved in to restore order.
Reacting to the development, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke condemned the violence and called on security agencies to intensify efforts to maintain peace and prevent further attacks. Political leaders from both camps have traded accusations over the cause of the clash, with each side blaming the other for the disturbance.
The Osun State Police Command confirmed that investigations have commenced into the incident. The police assured residents that normalcy has been restored in the affected areas and pledged to identify and prosecute those responsible, regardless of their political affiliations.
The latest clash adds to growing concerns about political violence in Osun ahead of the state's governorship election, with observers urging political actors and their supporters to embrace peaceful campaigns and respect democratic processes.
