ONE DEAD, FIVE INJURED AS SUV CRASHES INTO TRICYCLES IN ANAMBRA
Tragedy struck in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State on Saturday morning when a Lexus SUV rammed into two tricycles, leaving one person dead and five others injured.
The crash happened around 6:30 am along People’s Club–Limca Road, just ahead of the by-elections for Anambra South Senatorial District and Onitsha North I State Constituency.
Eyewitnesses said the occupants of the SUV — suspected to be security operatives — immediately fled the scene with their rifles after realizing the severity of the accident.
Confirming the incident, Anambra State Police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, said the vehicle had been recovered and a full investigation was underway, as ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu.
Ikenga explained that the impact of the crash left several passengers of the tricycles badly injured. The victims were quickly rushed to a hospital, where one was later confirmed dead.
He further clarified that investigations so far revealed the Lexus SUV does not belong to any security agency in the state, contrary to initial fears.
The police have appealed for calm in the community, assuring residents that efforts are ongoing to uncover the full circumstances behind the fatal crash.
