A tragic road accident near Yauri in Kebbi State has claimed the life of a driver transporting 13 students of Usman Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS) back from Ilorin, Kwara State.

The students were returning to school when the vehicle crashed, leading to multiple injuries among the passengers and the instant death of the driver.

According to reports, eight of the students suffered bone fractures, while the remaining five sustained other injuries. All 13 are currently receiving treatment at the Usman Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital in Sokoto.

Reacting swiftly to the incident, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq approved the release of ₦5,250,000 to cover their full medical treatment.

A statement issued by Wasiu Onidugbe, the Governor’s Special Assistant on Student Affairs, confirmed that the funds will cover scans, tests, surgeries, and other treatments necessary for their recovery.

“The health and welfare of our students remain a top priority. The funds are to ensure all 13 affected students get the best possible care,” the statement read.

Families and colleagues of the injured students have expressed gratitude for the prompt intervention, as prayers continue for their speedy recovery.

The incident serves as another grim reminder of the dangers on Nigerian roads, especially for students and travelers.
